Jason Day has claimed the biggest title of his career following victory at the WGC-Matchplay Championship.
The 26-year-old Australian - who despite finishing runner-up in the majors on three occasions had only won once on the PGA Tour at the 2010 Byron Nelson - collected his double when ousting Victor Dubuisson on the 23rd hole of the matchplay final at Dove Mountain.
Day moved 3up through nine holes but was pegged back to All Square after 18 holes when the Frenchman won the 17th and 18th with a birdie and a par. Despite appearing to have one hand on the trophy at the 20th hole, Day was left stunned when Dubuisson produced one of the greatest up-and-downs the game has ever seen - and remarkably, the 23-year-old Frenchman replicated the feat at the very next hole!
But after halving the next hole, Day quickly sealed the deal at the fifth extra hole when making birdie at the short par-4 15th. Day played with a full bag of TaylorMade and adidas Golf equipment, including Taylormade SLDR driver, taylormade speedblade irons, Ghost Tour putter, Tour Preferred X ball and adizero One footwear.
